Limitations and features of the digital file formats.

Different file formats in digital graphics, examples are jpeg gf, tiff, png and mbp. Majority of times (especially from adobe) files usually are saved in jpeg format as it’s one of the easiest to use and produce high quality view. These formats are better known as raster (aka bitmap) graphics which means everything is made out of pixels. There is huge amount of other file formats but most of them are useless as they are not meant to be used for digital graphics.

Different file sizes- different formats usually have different file sizes. This totally depends on the format file was saved. And example can be same image saved in different format like jpeg, tiff, mbp each of them will have different size, the image which will offer best quality will always have heaviest in memory while poorest quality will be lightest.

Vector graphics- The vector graphics very high format images which stay in great view while being magnified even by 10 times or more, it doesn’t lose it’s quality regardless of how magnified it was. Vector is an image composed of paths unlike bitmap (also known as pixel map) which made of dots which are combined. However, vector graphics also have few disadvantages and they are, it can take very long time to make them and certain effects cannot be put such as blurring. A main benefit from this is that at any size it will produce same quality image as an original. And example is below.

Bitmap graphics-images in this format are made from many dots which are attached one to another and while the image stays in same view as it has been taken the quality is great. The advantage is that it can take low amount of memory and easy to make, another advantage is that it can display any image realistically with all colours like blurring unlike the vector graphics which cannot. The disadvantage is than immediately when it has been zoomed in the quality drops by greatly and image start to turn into unclear square made image. From bitmap main benefit is that image which is in original form can produce better view image than vector if it has many different type of colours next to each other.  And example of image of its original size and being zoomed in. it clearly visible it begins to lose it’s quality.

 

Comparison of the two with same image

This image below shows that vector have superb quality when zooming in files. The Bitmap would look better if the image was not zoomed in, also vector style image would take more memory that bitmap as it has superior quality.

File compression technique

File compressions are lossless and lossy, the lossy means when image has been recreated it will be in poorer view than it was originally while lossless means the file will look exactly same as it was before being erased. Same file can be saved in different formats, files which take more memory will produce better view images than other ones.

Whenever any type(s) of file is compressed, takes less memory then all of them separate, purpose of this is to send them faster and more efficient. I will explain file zipping program called WinZip.

Different file sizes and formats

Images also can be saved in different file formats which means they memory size will be different. Here is name of few of many different file formats; GIF file, JPEG files, MPEG files, Nxview file, shockwave etc. By far most popular, widely known and used are the GIF and JPEG formats as they meant to be used in digital graphics. Here is an example of same image taken in 5 different file formats, as you can see the file size is different.

WinZip

To compress several images into single file using winzip is very easy. All the person needs to is select all the images and then right click mouse and select “extract to here”.



Image resolution

Is amount of pixels is per image, the higher the amount the better the image it will look. Average resolution these days is 360 or 480, high is 720 super high is 1080 and ultra high is 1440p (however only certain pc with very powerful monitor can upload and view images into 1440p). An example is here with the different amount of pixels in same size image.

The 1x1 pixel is not even visible while 10x10 is barely visible, 100x100 is very good quality and can be easily understood,

For digital graphics to have great image view it is necessary to have high quality cameras, graphics cards and monitors so it can produce 1080 or 1440p images on large screen(30inch or larger). The higher image resolution the better impact it gives to people who use them for work.

Colour depth

Is also known as bit depth is several or many colours in same image, the worst colour depth is 8bit while best one can do 64bit(but with very expensive hardware gear). Average now is 24bit.

The image difference is very different looking when comparing with 2 colour depths, the one on the left is good quality while on right is very poor. In digital graphics colour depth is very important and the higher it is the better images will look.

From 2010 people have began made computer screens at very large screen and extreme high resolution being 2560x1440 and at 1440. They cost very high price and not many of them are on the market. With such amazing monitor and adding very powerful computer, person can manipulate digital graphics in any way that is currently possible still getting the very highest performance, also the image itself must be high or very high quality. The impact is great and still getting higher because this is currently the very best computer as being not a supercomputer (which usually has more than one of everything).

Tablets have been increased they capability a lot in past few years, now people can have high quality screen while doing anything with the tablet as it watching a video or playing a game. People this has made great impact on people who like to use specially made pen for tablets and manipulate the graphics same as using a mouse connected to a pc. Laptops which will come out in 2012 expected to have significantly stronger cpu’s which means they be faster, the product itself be lighter and thinner which means easier to carry around, Very high resolution displays allowed the users to view in 1080 and possibly 1440p resolution which is also known as original resolution.

The new consoles will came out from both Xbox and play station companies, the Xbox 720 and play station 4 will be extremely powerful games consoles and with powerful enough screen they will give out massive 1080 or even 1440p. This will give extremely pleasant impact to gamers and people who love games consoles. Recently it has been announced that playsation phone will come out, this gagged will be combination of newest phone and play station game consoles allowing user to enjoy every game she/he plays at high definition and also use for calls and message to other people. This phone will have more to reveal whenever it will be officially released as company who makes this doesn’t reveal everything it will have yet.

New printers coming out with very high quality images, combine extremely high definition monitor with very powerful monitor and very high quality to get the very best quality images and print them even at large size. This impact is great for people who love to make memories into images and who are working with cameras all the time or simply have plenty of money to have best possible images.

All the mobile phones that are coming out now are touch screen or at least 90%, they have very high quality definition and people can easily access email, YouTube, any other websites, play games and view images. Recently a lot of companies began to make new type of phones these phones will be able to bend and produce equally same view at any position. Nokia has began to make these phones and one of most known abilities these phones will have is in order to magnify the image person would have to bend the phone instead of touching the screen or any button, not much about these phones is known currently and depending on user style these phones can either bring positive or negative impact on society. Also another type of phones will come out with quad core cpu, these phones will be smaller version of laptops and possibly designed more for specific tasks like run several hardware and or software programs at same time.

The overall impact all the new hard wares have brought is great and there isn’t any serious disadvantages only the price will be very high at start but slowly decrease. The advantages are that the quality is very high and easily meet the expectations. For people who works with digital graphics this is absolutely amazing and very beneficial to work and use.

2 types of software and hardware

Software’s

Adobe Photoshop

Key tools and functions: Adobe has many functions and tools that are extremely useful for digital graphics, which such software you can change image so completely that other people won’t know is it real or not. The tools it has are; flip, crop, rotate, group or ungroup and resize any image. It posses also a lot of Special effect functions like soften/ harden the image, invert it, laying and colour depth. Abode can also be used in wire frame which means the thing on the image can be with bounds but empty inside. Adobe can also be used to add 3d effects in the image, I have used Adobe Photoshop on several occasions and from my experience it can be difficult for beginners and people who are not good in digital graphics.

Limitations- Adobe Photoshop only limitation is that the software itself so large that for the user to learn everything will take long amount of time (possibly more than a year), but at the same time software is mostly used in world wide because of good quality and being efficient.

Sumo paint

Key tools and functions: Sumo paint is much simpler digital graphics software than adobe and better to use for beginners who want to learn how to edit photos and images. You can do many things on it like crop, cut, chance colour, background add part of one image into another one etc. The awesome thing with sumo is that you can save it online and you can access it from anywhere by using your account. Another helpful thing that sumo paint does is updates with extra additional features for free which can increase popularity of the product.

Limitations- this software is far more limited that adobe and would be much easier to use for beginners who wish to learn how to manipulate images.

Hardware’s

Monitor
Key tools and functions: Monitors main function is to produce images and videos at as high resolution as possible. 20 and 23 inch monitors will have high resolution for images. There is also dual and a triple screen monitor which means one screen will be shared between 2 or 3 monitors. A lot of computer monitors in 21 century are touch screen which allows the user to interact with the device using fingers instead of a mouse. Monitors created recently are able to produce 1440p quality view which is also known as the original view. For graphics creation and edition 1440p monitor allows user have most realistic look of an image or video they are editing. To create 1440 videos or images, powerful video editing program like camtasia or Sony Vegas Pro and film or capture image and render at highest resolution, however this also requires powerful graphics card to.  

Limitations- depending on the size of actual screen the monitor can produce medium, high or very high quality images. Also having one monitor is big disadvantage when comparing to dual or triple monitors screen, the triple will always have the overall best view on anything.

Mouse

Key tools and functions: Main function of mouse is to move the images across the computer and when open, change the image itself anyway you like, simple mouse is fully enough to use its functions (there is no need for higher technology expensive mouse). Most of mouse’s in 21 century are wireless and connects through USB port in pc (this allows user to use it from distance). Recently a new type of mouse has be released, the evoluent mouse this mouse is designed for eliminating forearm twisting and makes use even easier that regular mouse. The mouse remains steady when you press the buttons because thumb naturally opposes finger movements. People who constantly work with digital graphics in various ways such device can be great help by making use more comfortable and perhaps allows them to work faster and more efficient. Limitations- The use that mouse have on image is everything, it is far more common than special pens because it is easier to use in general. However for artist or people who are very good at arts, special touch pens are more comfortable to draw on touch screen drawing with requires smooth and realistic look.



Performance on 4 main components of PC

The main 4 components of pc are, Hard disk, RAM's, Processor and Graphics Card



Hard drive

Hard drive also known as hard disc or main memory is vey important piece in computer and is secondary memory. It keeps entire information you put and stores it safe, These days hard drives with not so much memory (up to 320gigs) are far more powerful than old 1tb or 2tb hard drives. A better quality hard drive gives better performance

Processor

Very important piece of computer, the processor is the speed of PC and the better performance and powerful processors you got the faster it opens programs. Processor is much more important than rams or hard disc and for non gamers is more important that Graphics card, processors also have quite high price, the current best processor on the market cost 1k dollars. Processors increase pc’s performance greatly and the better processors you have the better performance will be of entire pc use.

RAM(Random Access Memory)

Rams is less important that Ram or processor but computer still need to have good amount of rams(at least 4gigs) to run without problems. Ram is primary memory and allowed you run software's, the bigger amount of rams your pc has the more programs at same time it can run. This increases computers performance by a lot especially in working with many programs at same time

Graphics Card

Most important component for people who enjoy playing games online and which have been released recently. Graphics card have it’s own memory to being from 1gig to 4 and one of most powerful graphics card will have multiple cores in single graphics card, for example double 2gig graphics card.

Mouse

A mouse is one of the most important piece of pc and a necessary thing to be

used in digital graphics. Better technology mouse's are USB and wireless so

you can move it across the room.

Mouse is used to manipulate images, size, shape, Colour, turn the angle of it, adding new things into It and deleting the pieces of it. It great help in Digital Graphics.

Monitor

A monitor also known as screen is where you see all you view come out once

you open selected file, without screen you can’t work anything that is related to

digital Graphics. You images comes out on screen and you can look

and decide, does the image looks bad or good, is there something you should

add or remove. Usually higher price monitors have better definition and

quality of view than cheaper ones as well as larger  screen, either 1600x900 or 1920x1080, necessary Thing in digital graphics.

Graphics Tablet

Graphics Tablet is mini board where you can draw using special pen and it will

appear on the screen, this is comfortable if you get use to it and know how it

works. You can manipulate images same way as using a mouse just that this is more

comfortable.

Digital camera

Digital camera is a device that you take photos and upload into Pc, then you can change them in any way you want. Higher prices cameras always have better quality and resolution. Cameras are essential part in digital graphics as you can make images yourself and then upload them into pc or hard disk.



Scanner

Scanner is a device where you can copy the image into your pc and then manipulate and print. Higher price scanners have always good quality and are more used than cheaper scanners, they also usually last longer as they are made out of better materials.



Flash card

Flash cards are small memory cards than can be inputted into a pc but are used for phones. You can impute the image into pc, chance it anyway you want and put back into flash card again. For digital graphics, the flash cards are useful because you can photo images or film videos with high quality and put in on pc then manipulate it.



USB devices

USB devices are another type of hard disk just that it is far smaller and comfortable to use, it can fit easily in a pocket pocket. The memory one USB sticks can be from 1gigabyte to as much as 32 or more. USB devices are cheap, for digital graphics USB is useful as it can be the mini hard disk, you can store vast amount of high quality images and a lot of videos and put them in any other PC.



Printers

Printers give out the images, photos and sheets on paper, the higher quality printer is the better definition images and photos will come out from printer. In digital graphics, it is very useful to have best printer you can afford because the quality of images bring printer depends on printer. Printers are connected to Pc.



Fire Wire devices

Very fast memory transferred devices, uses USB technology and can be connected with many computers. For digital graphics, you can transfer large amount of information (images and videos) very quickly between Pc’s that are connected through fire wire.
